Edison to Lake Erie

October 28, 2017
Mile 934.8 - Mile 948.5
Edison, Bayview Edison Rd, Padilla Shore Trail, Memorial Hwy(20), South March Point Rd

Beginning in the quaint town of Edison, we headed east and then south, treading pavement along Bayview Edison Rd. making our way toward the bay. After about 5 miles of walking through coastal farmland filled with blueberry and apple orchards, we arrived at the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. This was a great little stop! We ate our lunches, used clean bathrooms, and learned a little about the Padilla Bay fauna. Just 2 miles down the road we connected with the lovely Padilla Shore Trail which hugs the bay shore for the next 2 1/4 miles. The rest of today's walk took us back to pavement along Memorial Hwy 20, over the bridge crossing the Swinomish Channel and a short mile on S March Point Rd to our car.

Mile 957.2 - Mile 963.9
Anacortes Community Forest Lands

This section of the PNT was primarily along trails through the Anacortes Community Forest Lands. Trails were well maintained and marked. The walk through this area of rain forest, with it's huge fallen leaves, moss, ferns, mushrooms, and misty lakes was good for our hiker hearts after our long road walk the previous day. 5.5 miles through this lush forest led us past several lakes, across Heart Lake Rd and a climb up part way up Mt. Erie. We were rewarded with wonderful views of Lake Erie and Burrows Bay to the west and Lake Cambpell to the south.

I have to throw in a few pictures of the stunning sunsets that we were the "Amens" to our days!
